FRN101 introduces learners to the fundamentals of the French grammar. The course reinforces the four linguistic competencies (reading and writing, listening and speaking) by exposing learners to both authentic and instructional materials. Emphasis on metacognitive and metalinguistic awareness permits learners to reflect about their own mistakes as well as to contrast English and French grammars. The course integrates materials about selected aspects of French civilization and culture with particular emphasis on French-speaking Canadian traditions and customs. Regular class attendance and weekly lab practice are essential to succeed in the course.
This beginner course may not be suitable for students who already have a French education background. If you have a French education background or if French is your native language, you must mention this at the time of your registration. The professor/program coordinator will contact you to confirm your acceptability in the course.
